Dear Principals and School Administrators:
On behalf of Human Rights Film Focus Nepal, I would like to invite your school to participate in our traveling film festival called “Shaking the Tree”. While the main festival took place in November 2012, we thought that it would be important to reach out to students, the future leaders and decision-makers of Nepal, and expose them to issues that are relevant in both a national and international setting.
Below are some options for your school:
Shaking the Tree Film Festival
We will work with you to organize a 2-4 day film festival at your school. You choose the films that are appropriate for your students, organize discussions, and other events. We will help secure speakers.
Screening at your school
Screen one or more films to your school. We’ll also provide a speaker who will introduce the film and lead a discussion afterwards. We would like an audience of at least 50-75 students, and more if possible.
Organize a film series
Screen several films over a period of time, perhaps on Fridays for 4-5 weeks. Several classes would gather to watch a film series. The films could be multi-issued or focused on a single issue, like worker immigration in Nepal.
How to arrange a screening: If you’d like to participate in our travelling film festival, we will put you in touch with one of our “Shaking the Tree” coordinators, who will help you choose how to participate, assist you in selecting films, and coordinate getting films and speakers to your event(s). To see descriptions for some of the films we are offering, go to www.hrffn.org.
Costs: There is a minimal production cost, depending on how you want to participate. The fees for schools can vary, depending on their financial capacity. Our program coordinators will discuss this as you develop your program.
Human Rights Film Focus Nepal is excited about expanding our traveling film festival this year. If your school does not have the technical capacity to screen a film, we can provide a projector and screen. We look forward to working with you to expand student’s knowledge about human rights issues and hope that you will take advantage of this exciting educational opportunity.
